Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of bond issuance announcements on share price returns in three emerging markets and examine the characteristics of bond issues that affect the abnormal share price returns of the company.
Design/methodology/approach
This study employs event study, correlation and multiple regression techniques to attain the research objectives. The authors test hypotheses on 105 public listed companies from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, during the period of 2008–2014.
Findings
The findings show positive cumulative average abnormal returns resulting from the announcement of corporate bond issuance for Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The results reveal that there is a significant effect of bond issuance announcements on share price returns. The results also disclose that the market is not efficient at its semi-strong form as proposed by the market efficiency hypothesis.
Originality/value
The results provide better references for fund managers and investors in capital markets to take advantage of the abnormal returns resulting from bond issuance announcements.

Abstract
The traditional methods of library book lending and membership control are discussed, and the advantages of bar code based automated systems are suggested. The experiences of seven major Singapore libraries in implementing such systems are compared, with special reference to the use of ‘specific’, ‘significant’ or ‘smart’ bar codes, comparisons of purchased versus locally printed labels and homebrew versus turnkey systems, and a look at the problems of retrospective conversion.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the factors influencing renewable energy output.
Design/methodology/approach
The panel data model was used to analyze the fixed and random effects.
Findings
The results showed that economic development, environmental-related technology patents, renewable energy consumption and the publication of papers and periodicals contributed to enhancing renewable energy production. Wind power generation’s adjustment speed is faster than that of solar power generation in the renewable energy sector. The use of renewable energy was affected by the weather and related costs.
Originality/value
Many countries choose energy with reasonable prices and stable power generation and use renewable energy as additional backup power.
